Terms of Service

These terms describe what 9inbox provides, what it does not, and what you agree to when you use it. They are written to be read rather than to be survived.

Last updated: 11 September 2026

1. What the service is

9inbox provides temporary, receive-only email addresses on domains that we operate, together with a web interface and an API for reading the mail sent to them. Addresses and messages are deleted automatically according to the limits of the plan in use.

The service is provided as it is. We aim for it to be available and for mail to be delivered promptly, but no email system can guarantee delivery of a message it did not send, and you should not build anything that would be seriously harmed by a message failing to arrive.

2. What the service is not

9inbox cannot send email. There is no compose function, no reply function and no relay of any kind. This is a permanent design decision and not a feature awaiting implementation.

A temporary inbox is not private. It has no password, and anyone who knows or correctly guesses an address can read the mail sent to it. Do not use 9inbox for banking, payment services, government or health portals, employment accounts, or any account whose loss would matter to you.

3. Acceptable use

You may use 9inbox for any lawful purpose. The following are not permitted, and accounts or sessions engaged in them will be terminated without notice:

  • Using an address to commit fraud, impersonate another person, or evade a ban or suspension imposed by another service.
  • Attempting to receive mail intended for someone else, including by guessing or enumerating addresses.
  • Registering addresses that imitate a role account, a brand or an official function, such as postmaster, billing or support at a company you do not represent.
  • Automated creation of addresses at a rate intended to degrade the service, or any attempt to circumvent rate limiting.
  • Distributing malware, or using an inbox as a delivery point for material that is illegal in your jurisdiction or in ours.

4. Accounts and plans

A guest session requires no account and is identified by a signed token stored in your browser. Losing that token means losing access to the addresses created with it; there is no recovery process, because there is no identity to verify against.

Paid plans are billed in advance for the period selected. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period, and the account then returns to free tier limits — which means data outside the free retention window becomes eligible for deletion. Download anything you intend to keep before downgrading.

5. Data and deletion

Addresses and messages are deleted automatically when their retention window expires. Deletion removes the data from our database and object storage; it is not moved to an archive. Backups are retained for a limited operational period and are themselves rotated.

You may delete an address or a message at any time. Deleting an address also deletes the messages belonging to it.

6. Abuse reports

We accept and act on abuse reports concerning addresses on our domains. Reports are handled through the process described on the abuse page. We do not read message content in the course of ordinary operations or support; access for an investigation requires a report reference, a recorded reason and elevated authorisation, and every such access is logged.

7. Changes

These terms may change as the service does. Material changes will be announced on the service before they take effect. Continuing to use 9inbox after a change means you accept the revised terms.
